Australia is a multicultural country, home to people from many different backgrounds, languages, and cultures. Harmony Day, celebrated annually on 21 March, is a time to recognise and celebrate this cultural diversity. With the national theme of ‘Everyone Belongs’, Harmony Day promotes inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for all.
At BELS, we have been proudly celebrating Harmony Day every year in late March for more than 10 years. Each term, we welcome new arrival students and families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, and we take great pride in the diversity of our school community.
Harmony Day at BELS is filled with engaging cultural activities and vibrant performances. Students take part in activities such as Venetian mask making, Greek Easter egg decorating, and Chinese calligraphy. The day also features performances including African drumming, lion dances, and more.
This special event is a highlight of our school year, bringing together students, staff, and families to honour and celebrate the rich cultures that make up our BELS community.
One Monday morning, a parent accidentally left behind a big bag of cash while dropping off his child at school. He only realised the bag was missing when he arrived at the bank to make a deposit. He immediately called the school and asked if we could help locate it.
Our office staff quickly searched the grounds and eventually found the bag lying on the grass near the footpath outside Gate 4 — with all the cash still inside! We called the parent, who came straight back to collect it and quietly left.
About 30 minutes later, he returned with a big box of Golden Apples to thank us for saving his “golden” notes!
